Some Observations on Bacterial Thermal Death Time Curves.

چکیده
Thermal death rate data were obtained for spores of Clostridium sporogenes P.A. 3679 and Bacillus subtilis var. niger, and for cells of Salmonella senftenberg 775W. The survival curves for P.A. 3679 were approximately linear, but for B. subtilis var. niger or S. senftenberg 775W they were sigmoidal. Decimal reduction times were derived from the regression slopes of the apparent linear portion of the survival curves, and from these a phantom thermal death time (TDT) curve was constructed. In general, the phantom TDT curves were linear for B. subtilis var. niger and S. senftenberg 775W and nonlinear for P.A. 3679.

Kinetics of thermal death of bacteria.
Experimental observations on thermal injury and death of bacteria in the stationary phase can be explained by assuming that death results from inactivation of (X(L)) of N critical sites. It is assumed: (i) that inactivation of individual sites occurs at random and follows first-order kinetics, (ii) that the critical sites are identical and of equal heat resistance, and (iii) the bacterial popul...
متن کاملKinetics of Heat Activation and of Thermal Death of Bacterial Spores.
Hypotheses concerning kinetics of heat activation and of thermal death of bacterial spores were formulated, and were employed to derive equations describing nonlogarithmic thermal death curves. The equations permitted evaluation of the validity of experimental data and provided a means for testing the hypotheses presented.

A previously established multiscale population genetics model posits that fitness can be inferred from the physical properties of proteins under the physiological assumption that a loss of stability by any protein confers the lethal phenotype to an organism. Here, we develop this model further by positing that replication rate (fitness) of a bacterial or viral strain directly depends on the cop...

Two developmental stages of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), 24-h-old eggs and third instars, 8 d after oviposition, were subjected to thermal exposures in a heating block system, at various temperatures of 46, 48, 50, and 52 degrees C to determine the thermal death kinetics of the insects. At these temperatures, 100% mortality was achieved by exposure of 300 C. capitata larvae for 60, 15, 4, an...
متن کاملThermal inactivation characteristics of bacterial spores at ultrahigh temperatures.
The thermal inactivation characteristics of Bacillus stearothermophilus (1518) spores and putrefactive anaerobe (PA) 3679 (NCA) spores suspended in skim milk were determined after treatment in pilot-plant ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) processing equipment. Temperature-survivor curves were constructed from survival data to emphasize the critical nature of temperature control in process evaluation....
